Icy and COLD Holiday Weekend

This valentine’s day and Presidents Day weekend will feature a winter storm, that will bring significant ice accumulations across the Mid Atlantic into parts of the Northeast this weekend. This storm has the potential to bring some areas between DC and Philadelphia .10″ to .25″ of ice Saturday night into Sunday, some models are showing a chance for even more ice than that. Ice accumulation on power lines will cause power outages and outages could be for an extended period of time. While some areas will see snow during this storm at this point it appears to be minor snow 1-3″ before a sleet/freezing rain mix. Travel during late Saturday into Sunday should be limited due to the nature of this storm.

Today 7 people were killed on a Texas highway due to icy conditions apart of a 100 vehicle pileup. Car after car crashed into each other on I-35, which was coated in a slick sheet of ice that made driving treacherous. See video below from Inside Edition as a FedEx truck is unable to stop on the icy roadway.

We will have a full update on this tomorrow as well as share any warnings or watches issued by the National Weather Service.
