but wait there’s MORE!

After some boring winters the past few years, This year is non-stop. We are tracking our next winter storm that will bring moderate snowfall to the area. While this storm does appear to start out as snow for everyone, we will see a changeover to an icy mix and even rain for some. How strong does the low get? That is yet to be determined. If the arctic air that will move in tonight is able to stay in place during this Thursday storm most of the area will see all snow with little changeover, but we need a few things to work out perfectly for that to happen. At this time it looks like a general 4-6″ is POSSIBLE across most of the region with 6″ + in the Lehigh Valley, as well as 1-3″ across Southern parts of NJ BEFORE a changeover to ICE/Rain. A lot of factors are in play but we will be tracking this storm and bring you the latest information as it progresses. Until then, enjoy the near 50º today and get ready for cold air to move in this morning.

Saturday afternoon we will see snow/sleet move into the area after 4pm and could start at snow to the north, but a wintery mix/sleet for majority of the area. This first wave will be light, just use caution when out driving Saturday overnight into Sunday morning for slick spots and allow for extra time.

Monday Night into Tuesday we are sounding the alarms. This is looking more and more likely a major ice storm will cause significant issues to some along the Mid Atlantic and Northeast. At this point who gets more ice vs less is still up in the air. BUT we can’t stress this enough any ice/freezing rain will cause issues. At this point you should start to prepare for an ice storm if you are in the DC-Phl-NYC areas. Use the next day to prepare a disaster supply kit. Each kit should include a food/water supply for 3 days, flash lights w/ extra batteries, first aid kit, at least a 7 day supply of any medicines, as well as cash (can’t use the ATM if power is out). If the ice storm threat becomes a reality power could be out for days if not weeks.

We will have the latest information throughout the next day or so and bring you round the clock updates.

Icy and COLD Holiday Weekend

This valentine’s day and Presidents Day weekend will feature a winter storm, that will bring significant ice accumulations across the Mid Atlantic into parts of the Northeast this weekend. This storm has the potential to bring some areas between DC and Philadelphia .10″ to .25″ of ice Saturday night into Sunday, some models are showing a chance for even more ice than that. Ice accumulation on power lines will cause power outages and outages could be for an extended period of time. While some areas will see snow during this storm at this point it appears to be minor snow 1-3″ before a sleet/freezing rain mix. Travel during late Saturday into Sunday should be limited due to the nature of this storm.

Today 7 people were killed on a Texas highway due to icy conditions apart of a 100 vehicle pileup. Car after car crashed into each other on I-35, which was coated in a slick sheet of ice that made driving treacherous. See video below from Inside Edition as a FedEx truck is unable to stop on the icy roadway.

We will have a full update on this tomorrow as well as share any warnings or watches issued by the National Weather Service.
